Nursery Progress – Our Crib Choice

In a spontaneous fit of decision-making on-the-go, we decided yesterday that the new baby’s nursery will be white, grey and yellow and we even bought a crib and a dresser! It is such a weight off my shoulders that the ball is really rolling on this project and that the main items can already be crossed off the list. Yay!

So which crib did we choose? The IKEA Sundvik, in white.

What did it come down to? I really like the Oeuf Sparrow and the Sebra Kili. They are great pieces of design furniture that really make a room. But the Oeuf Sparrow is quite big and the Sebra Kili isn’t great as a toddler bed. And while they are lovely, they are not ten times more lovely than the Sundvik, but they are almost ten times as expensive.

The IKEA Sundvik is a great little (at least here in Europe it is little) crib that I think will also make a nice toddler bed. It matches well with Alec’s Brio Sleep (in case our kids end up sharing a room at some point) and I think it will really suit the new nursery.

We also ended up choosing a very affordable dresser, the IKEA Koppang. We’ll use this for extra clothes storage (to free up some space in the cupboard for other baby gear like bottles, pump parts and other stuff that will just not fit in our kitchen with all the kids stuff that is already there) and as a changing table for the first few months when changes are so crazy frequent. After the first six months or so, I’m not even sure we’ll want a dresser in the nursery – I think we will need something that frees up more floor space for playing and that has more open storage for books and toys. So it’s great to have found such a cheap one in case we don’t use it that long.

Getting off so cheaply with the crib and dresser also means that there might be room for some other more expensive elements (I am lobbying for a Madeline Weinrib rug and a Jonas Bohlin Liv lamp).
